Most nettops currently ship with either 160gb or 250GB of storage space and if, like many, your nettop is used as a media machine, that’s not enough. The simple and easy solution is an external hard drive. The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk hard drive, is now available in 1TB, 2TB, and 3TB varieties.
The 3TB is the standout – we’re pretty sure it’s the first 3tb drive shoehorned into an external enclosure. You can pick one up today from Seagate for $250, but if you’re willing to settle for only 2tb (ahem) you can try Seagate’s 2 Terabyte external drive for just $139.95 here.
The hard drive connects to your computer over a USB 2.0 connection, although the Seagate press release mentions the ability to upgrade to Firewire or USB 3.0.
Lenovo sent me the N5901 multimedia remote and keyboard for review the other week and I’ve been putting it through its paces the last few days. I had seen the launch photos just a few weeks ago, and it looked interesting then, but I had no idea that it was so tiny! It easily fits in one had, and the keys aren’t much bigger than on your smartphone. Of course, that has it’s up and downs but overall, I was grateful to get my old full size keyboard off of the coffee table. The remote is available now at Amazon for just about $60 shipped.
Check out my first impressions and review after the break, as well as tons of pictures.
So you’ve loaded up your shiny new nettop with your entire music collection, all of your videos. You’ve got Boxee up and running, or perhaps just Hulu and Netflix via your browser. You have the ultimate multimedia machine at your disposal. It’s silent, tiny, and uses almost no power. But wait, who wants to sit on the couch with a clunky keyboard and remote.
You need an infra red receiver and a remote control, and this one, for just under $15 is one of the best we’ve found. Yes, it’s a Microsoft product, but hey make some darn good hardware! Just plug the receiver into a spare usb port, tuck the small receiver somewhere out of site and you’re ready to go.
Trust us, this will be the best $15 you spend all week.
