Ripple updates its Look nettop with Fusion E-Series chip

Ripple Look Fusion Nettop

A little while ago, Ripple Korea unveiled a nettop called the ‘Look’ which featured a dual core Atom processor underneath its slick looking, glossy block case.  And, while the dual core Atom was more powerful that most, we have learned that the next generation Ripple nettop will be even more capable.

Ripple has refreshed the Look nettop with an AMD Fusion E-350 (“Zacate”) chip.  That means you can almost certainly expect a bump in graphics performance.  Other than the new processors, the specs haven’t changed much: like the previous generation, it comes with 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. No word on pricing or availability yet.

Chromium OS and Trim Slice nettop equals Chromebox

Thursday, July 7th, 2011 | Compulab Nettops with Comments

Trim Slice Chromium Nettop

The Trim Slice is a tiny $199 nettop with a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, HDMI output, and a few SD card slots.  Add some internal storage, WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities and you’ve got a very capable little machine.  Compulab, the company behind the Trim Slice has been pushing the platform for Linux, or even Google Android, they’ve now shown the little computer running Google Chromium OS.

Chromium is the open source version of Chrome OS, so it doesn’t have some of the built-in hardware security features found in Chrome OS, and nobody’s promising a 10 second boot time for Chromium on the Trim Slice.  But, it makes a great cheap machine to run the browse-based operating system and  Compulab says the Trim Slice can support Chromium OS on an HD display or even dual monitors.
